Literature review on the potential Climate change effects on drinking water resources across the EU and the identification of priorities among different types of drinking water supplies
The Blueprint to safeguard Europe's water resources underlines vulnerability of water resources as a key concern. The focus is on drinking water, a key resource for society, and which provision may be impacted by climate change(CC). This study explores the vulnerability of drinking water to CC, to assess the knowledge base and help identify what measures can be taken in this context. The main risks for DW abstraction are competition for use, pollution, floods as well as water scarcity and droughts. Understanding how CC will impact these risks is important to identify measures to be implemented in the future; similarly identifying how much, when and from what sources drinking water is abstracted will have bearing on the measures to be chosen.
