MAKE IT BE - Joint bioenergy projects European Final Event
Nowadays sustainable energy issues are in core discussion. What energy for the
future of the EU? Bioenergy is one of the most relevant options. In 2020 the
European Union has agreed to reach 20% of its total energy consumption through
renewable sources by 2020, as outlined in the EU climate and energy package. To
achieve this objective, it is crucial to put in place a mix of all possible RES options,
including bioenergy. Biomass has a huge potential. Especially at the community level,
biomass can support decentralized energy provision, thereby improve the energy
security and ensure more stable prices. The use of biomass embraces also
generating local employment opportunities and contributing to climate protection by
replacing polluting fuels with carbon neutral emissions fuels.
